Maid to Order

Top 10 Best Video Game Maids of All-Time!

Night Mode

Maids are female house servants who are typically employed by wealthy families. Their duties vary greatly from one household to the next, but they are usually tasked with domestic chores like cooking, cleaning, and taking care of children. Classic French maid uniforms are often associated with sexual roleplay and fetishism, so its not uncommon for video game characters to dress up like maids in order to amp up their sex appeal. Anyone can throw on a frilly skirt and thigh-high stockings, however, so this list only deals with characters who actually are maids.

Examples: Alice Nelson, Rosie, Misaki Ayuzawa

Fiona Mayfield

10

Fiona Mayfield

Arcana Heart Series

Fiona Mayfield was born into wealth, but she was separated from her family when she was pulled into the Elemental World. Lost in an environment she didn’t understand, Fiona found herself surrounded by the kinds of fantastic creatures that she had read about in fairy tales. After a manipulative bitch named Mildred promised to help her find a way home, Fiona agreed to act as her servant. Fiona stopped aging when she entered the Elemental World, so she has a tendency to break down and cry whenever she’s upset. She’s defined by her immaturity and awkwardness, but Fiona’s at her best when she’s helping others and shows steadfast loyalty to her mistress. When she’s not busy sweeping Mildred’s castle, Fiona uses a giant sword to protect the castle from intruders.

Marie Rose

Marie Rose

Dead or Alive Series

One could assume that Marie Rose’s default outfit was merely a reflection of her gothic lolita fashion sensibilities, but the pint-sized brawler is actually a maid for a powerful businesswoman. Marie Rose is energetic, cheerful, and incredibly popular. Despite her significant fanbase, there are a couple of reasons why she’s not ranked higher on this list. Firstly, she’s not defined by her occupation in a meaningful way and her duties as a maid are never talked about. Secondly, the Dead or Alive games provide dozens of skimpy outfits for her to wear, so she doesn’t even look the part of a maid in most situations. That said, it’s remarkable that she even finds time for a proper job in the first place given how much time she spends street fighting, playing beach volleyball, and pole dancing.

Ailyth

8

Ailyth

Valkyrie Profile

Ailyth carries herself with grace and acts like a typical maid for the most part, but there’s more to her than meets the eye. Beneath her prim and proper exterior, she’s actually a demon who was sent from the underworld to keep tabs on a battle-hardened mercenary named Wylfred. Ailyth refers to Wylfred as master and occasionally offers him gifts, but she has no loyalty to him whatsoever and outright threatens to devour him (and not in a good way). After disclosing her real identity, Ailyth harasses Wylfred at every turn and vows to reveal her true self whenever her seductive charms fail. Her true form is that of a ravenous demon-hound, so I’m kind of amazed that Ailyth embraced her undercover job at all. She even incorporated dusting, mopping, and serving tea into her repertoire of attacks!

Sharon Kreuger

7

Sharon Kreuger

Legend of Heroes Series

Sharon Kreuger is the Reinford family’s maid, and she’s the perfect fit for the role. Not only is she a fantastic cook and a graceful worker, but she also shows incredible loyalty to the family. She seldom argues with the people she serves, she doesn’t object to any orders, and she’s so devoted to her employers that she’ll freely extend her services to their allies. Before taking a position with the Reinford family, Sharon served as an enforcer in a secret society. She tries her best to hide her military past, but it occasionally rears its head. Despite her humble and cheerful personality, Sharon is surprisingly sadistic in battle and shows neither mercy nor compassion to her enemies. When she’s not devastating her opponents with her powerful chains, Sharon keeps her party in fighting condition by serving them tea.

Sadayo Kawakami

6

Sadayo Kawakami

Persona 5

Sadayo Kawakami is a high school teacher who seems to be under constant stress. Her hair is unkempt, she always looks tired, and her anxiety builds whenever she’s given a new assignment. When she’s not teaching, she makes money on the side as a domestic service provider. For this role, she dons a French maid uniform and tries to act young and energetic for her clients. Her basic services include cooking, cleaning, and laundry, and she also offers extra “services” for her mature customers. Kawakami is only working for the sketchy maid service because she needs extra money to pay off blackmailers, so she obviously doesn’t want her secret getting out. After she’s hired by a group of her students, she agrees to let them slack off in class in exchange for their silence.

Felicia

5

Felicia

Fire Emblem Series

Felicia and her twin sister Flora were kidnapped as children for bullshit political reasons and forced into a life of servitude. Although Flora became accustomed to her role and was an exemplary maid, Felicia was a total klutz and was jokingly referred to as the goddess of destruction because of how clumsy she was. Felicia is prone to mistakes when performing her chores, but she’s a loyal servant who strives to become a proper maid like her sister. She prides herself in working hard to help others and would feel terrible and useless if she didn’t have others to care for. Despite her ineptitude as a maid, Felicia is a brilliant fighter and a prodigy on the battlefield. She’s not especially good at being and maid and can’t serve tea without spilling it, but you really have to admire her positive attitude.

Marie

4

Marie

Skullgirls

Marie Korbel is the main antagonist of Skullgirls, but she’s more of a well-intentioned extremist. She and her friend Patricia were wartime orphans who were forced into slavery by an evil organization. After the war, Bloody Marie found a wish-granting artifact called the Skull Heart and used it to punish their tormentors. The uniform Marie fights in was found in the makeshift orphanage that she grew up in. The other orphans were more likely to listen to her when she wore the outfit, so she made it a permanent part of her look. Marie uses her maid skills to cleanse the world of her enemies and even vacuums up their corpses with a demonic vacuum. She was corrupted by the power of the Skull Heart and transformed into the eponymous Skullgirl, but no one can accuse Marie of fighting dirty.

Sakuya Izayoi

3

Sakuya Izayoi

Touhou Project

As the head maid of an extravagant vampire mansion, Sakuya Izayoi leads a team of incompetent fairy maids. Since her team is pretty much useless, Sakuya is forced to do all of the work herself. This would be an impossible task under normal circumstances, but Sakuya has the ability to control the flow of time. Thanks to her mysterious powers, Sakuya has ample time for cooking, cleaning, and babysitting. (She’s also really good at throwing knives, but we’ve already covered that elsewhere on this site.) Almost everyone else living or working at the mansion are her subordinates, so Sakuya has more authority (and responsibilities) than most of the ladies on this list. At the end of the day, her reality-bending abilities make her the most efficient maid in gaming history.

Iroha

2

Iroha

Samurai Shodown Series

Iroha was a crane who transformed into a human maid in order to repay a man who had nursed her back to health after she injured her leg. Cranes are known for their gracefulness, and Iroha retained this attribute after she took the shape of a human. Some of Iroha’s fighting moves provide hints to her original form, but she tries her best to remain a human whenever possible. Iroha is an obedient and cheerful maid who serves her master with the utmost devotion. She views him as the most important aspect in her life and wishes for his happiness above all else. After making her debut in Samurai Shodown VI, Iroha went on to star in her own mobile game called Maid by Iroha. Iroha’s goal this time around was to win the coveted “Super Maid” competition which was apparently a thing for some reason.

Roll

1

Roll

Mega Man Series

Rock and Roll were kind-hearted robots that were created to help Dr. Light around the home. While Rock was famously converted into a fighting robot known as Mega Man, Roll continued keeping house. When she wasn’t busy cooking and cleaning, Roll served as a cheerleader for Mega Man and was always happy to congratulate her big brother on his victories. Roll was considered a joke character when she appeared in Marvel vs. Capcom, but Tatsunoko vs. Capcom painted her in a more positive light. She might not have been built for combat, but she was resourceful enough to use her broom as a weapon. Roll’s importance extends beyond housework, but she’s well-suited for this list. Most of the ladies listed here are great at their jobs, but Roll is the only one who was literally built to be a housekeeper.
