May 11 marks the 29th anniversary of the Saturn's ill-fated North American launch. Sega initially planned to launch the Saturn in North America in September of 1995 – exactly one week before Sony's PlayStation was scheduled to hit store shelves. However, at the first ever Electronic Entertainment Expo, Sega announced that they had trolled everyone and that the Saturn would actually be on store shelves later that day! Launching a new system without telling anyone was not a great marketing strategy, and Sega's offerings were soon overshadowed by Sony's newly-minted juggernaut. Despite disappointing sales figures, the Saturn had an amazing library that still holds up today. I've spent a lot of time with the system over the past few years, but the Saturn's countdown hasn't been touched since 2015! The list was long overdue for an update, so click on the image above to head for Saturn!
